Abstract

The Moroccan educational system has given special attention to the knowledge society through extensive reform programs adopted by Morocco. These reforms extend beyond ensuring desired quality conditions to make knowledge society the most effective way to pave the path for development and renewal according to internationally recognized standards. The ultimate goal is to create comprehensive development across all sectors, building a human capital armed with knowledge components to meet the challenges of the present era.

Recognizing that education is the basis for building elites working in various sectors critical to sustainable development, awareness has increased in the Kingdom of Morocco owing to societal transformations. The knowledge society has become seen as the key to development, renewal and conditions for development while ensuring its sustainability. This awareness has led to a radical reform of Morocco's educational institution, considering it a gateway to all desired innovations.

The disconnect from accumulated and repeated reforms that only led to successive failures, hindering the creation of a knowledge society, is attributed to the poor investment of the young human potential capable of innovation and renewal. Additionally, there is limited attention to the widespread use of information and communication technology in the educational system, which serves as a gateway to embracing the knowledge society. Various obstacles have delayed Morocco's engagement in the knowledge society by the aspired standards.

Believing that building a knowledge society is an ongoing process that necessarily passes through the educational system, rehabilitating it through its fundamental approaches is the first step in construction. This involves appreciating and effectively utilizing the available resources and capabilities, as well as identifying the constraints and challenges it faces.

This is what we will try to address through this paper, focusing on the concept, characteristics, dimensions and requirements of the knowledge society. The paper also highlights the role of the educational system, the educational institution and the importance of information technology in building this society. It also discusses opportunities for building the knowledge society and challenges to its realization.
