Abstract

This study deals with a case shrouded with a lot of confusion, related to the former Israeli Minister of Defence and Foreign Affairs, Moshe Dayan. The study shall focus on the serious role that he played in looting Arab antiquities that is part of the global heritage! Not only inside Palestine, but also went beyond the matter to neighbouring Arab countries.

The study covers Dayan's excavation (vandalism) activities in various sites extending from occupied Palestine, throughout the West Bank and Gaza, to Sinai. Important details will be highlighted regarding the complaints and official investigations conducted with Dayan by the Israel’s Antiquities Authority and the Knesset. We’ll see that the final chapter of the study will deal with the fate of these antiquities, and official acquisition by Israeli academic, cultural institutions and museums, an important topic was presented in some detail in this chapter on Jerusalem’s Museum, it's possession of some artefacts in suspicious or questionable means, without acknowledging the international legislations related to the acquisition of illicit cultural property.
